The love for the sea swings deep inside of me.
Even in childhood there was this feeling of ”coming home” when a blue stripe could be seen in the distance on a vacation trip. The first way led to the beach, hands had to dip into the water, had to greet the waves. And I still do that today.
In my project ”Longing for the Sea” I would like to trace this feeling, this connection with the sea.
I work abstractly in series on paper as well as on wooden panels and canvas.
”I love the sea as much as my soul, because the sea is my soul.”
Heinrich Heine
Undine, the water woman, the nymph or mermaid, is an ambivalent figure.
For me, the name in this series stands for the ambivalence of water and for its diverse manifestations.
I let myself go and tried to capture the flow with acrylic paint and ink.
The paintings in this first series are all 15 x 25 cm (6‘‘ x 10‘‘) and are made with acrylic paint and ink on watercolor paper.
The frames have a format of 28 x 35 cm (11‘‘ x 14‘‘).

I worked with a reduced palette from which I mixed all the colors.
I used Phtalo blue, madder red, cadmium yellow, white and black. Plus green ink.

On this page the paintings are only framed virtually, the proportions roughly correspond to reality.
The expression of the sea changes with weather conditions, seasons and times of day.
I feel very differently when I look at its movement, the waves, the reflexes. And I always take something with me.
In this second series I worked with acrylic paints on watercolor paper, too. The larger format required significantly more time and color.
The paintings are all 25 x 40 cm (10” x 16”).
The frames have a format of 40 x 50 cm (16” x 20”).

Here, too, I used a reduced palette: Phthalo blue, magenta, lemon yellow, white and black.
The other colors result in a different mood of the paintings.

The water surface may be calm or agitated, you cannot conclude anything from this about the underlying depth of the sea.
And you don’t know what can ascend from the depths to the surface.
In the third series I used wooden panels as a painting surface. They are cut from an old cabinet back wall.
On the hard surface, I have more possibilities for variation, I can apply paint, sand it down again, reapply it and thus create structures and depth.
The pictures have a size of 25 x 25 cm (10 ” x 10”), the frames have a size of 30 x 30 cm (12 ” x 12”).
