Ich nenne das ein kleines „Zwischenprojekt“.
Ich habe seit einiger Zeit im Netz gesehen, dass man mit den Schalen der Avocado färben kann, sowohl Stoff als auch Papier. Und in der Artist Community von Lydia Rink, bei der ich Mitglied bin, hat sie genau das vor kurzem in einem kleinen Projekt gezeigt: Papier bearbeiten und dann ein Buch daraus binden.
Ihr kennt mich, ich muss sowas natürlich sofort ausprobieren, habe beim nächsten Einkauf eine schöne, reife Avocado mitgenommen Ich weiß, deren Anbau ist nicht gerade umweltfreundlich. Deshalb kaufe ich sie inzwischen ausgesprochen selten, auch wenn ich sie liebe.
Im heutigen Video könnt ihr mir über die Schulter schauen, wie ich mein Papier vorbereite, die Färbebrühe herstelle und dann das Papier teilweise einfärbe.
Wie ich im Video schon gesagt habe: Das Buchbinden ist eine zeitlich etwas intensivere Arbeit. Ich brauche noch Buchdeckel und dann möchte ich zum ersten Mal den sogenannten „koptischen Stich“ zum Buchbinden ausprobieren. Er sieht toll aus, ist aber ein bisschen fummelig. Deshalb wird es in einer Woche einen zweiten Teil zu diesem Experiment geben.

Experiment: paper coloring with avocado
I call this a small “intermediate project”.
I’ve been seeing online for a while that you can use the peel of the avocado to color both fabric and paper. And in Lydia Rink‘s Artist Community, of which I am a member, she recently showed exactly that in a small project: working with paper and then binding a book out of it.
You know me, of course I have to try something like this immediately. I took a nice, ripe avocado with me the next time I went shopping. I know that growing them is not exactly environmentally friendly. That’s why I rarely buy them now, even though I love them.
In today’s video above you can look over my shoulder as I prepare my paper, make the coloring broth and then partially color the paper.
As I said in the video, bookbinding is a bit more time-consuming. I still need book covers and then I want to try the so-called “Coptic stitch” for bookbinding for the first time. It looks great but is a bit fiddly. Therefore there will be a second part of this experiment in a week.
