What to do if you struggle with a painting?

Making decisions – that’s also part of painting. I decide on a motif, on the size in which I want to implement it, on the materials.

While painting it goes on: Which colors do I choose? Do I want my painting to be more realistic or more abstract? And I can ask myself a lot more and then decide on one of the options.

But what if what is being created on the canvas doesn’t work the way I imagined it should? If small changes here or there don’t help?

I felt the same way with the third painting from the South of France series until I made a clear decision. Which? You can see that in the video above.

You don’t have to stubbornly follow a path to the end once you’ve taken it. This has nothing to do with giving up. When the dead end is visible, I am allowed to turn around and take another junction. And who knows what interesting areas this new path will take me to.

How do you deal with (self-chosen) projects that don’t go as they should? Do you keep struggling with them? Do you let them rest for a while and then try again? Do you change the terms? Write me something about it in the comments. I am excited to read your thoughts about it.
