Surf: I’m starting a new seascape painting

After the big clean-up work, the studio space is free again, the easel is set up and I start a new painting for my sea series.

I’m staying true to my color palette, so I’m working again with dark permanent green, blue-violet and orange, plus white and black as always.

I tune in to the sea with a memory of a moment in Corsica, a beach where the waves rolled full force onto the shore, flipped and receded.

In the video above you can look over my shoulder while painting, first during the painting session, in which I intuitively bring the colors onto the canvas. And then in some excerpts of the following work phases.

As you can see, not every brushstroke advances an image. Not everything you do is successful. You have to endure that, because it is part of the artistic process. The whole thing is a path that sometimes leads to dead ends, takes detours and then maybe eventually reaches a goal. Who knows, maybe a completely different one than what you originally aimed for.

In any case, if the painting is not good in our eyes, then it is simply not finished yet.
