Die Vernissage war eine Art Schlusspunkt für die aktuellen Arbeiten. Die kleine Serie von abstrakten Bildern rund ums Meer ist vorerst für mich beendet. Habe ich schon ein neues Projekt? Nein, im Augenblick bin ich erstmal glücklich, dass die Ausstellung läuft.
Außerdem ist es Zeit, die Inspirationen, die ich vor ein paar Wochen an der Ostsee gesammelt habe, genauer zu betrachten: Fotos vom Meer, von Strand und Wolken, von Fischerbooten im Hafen. Fotos von Motiven, die meinen Blick gefangen haben auf der Straße, in Ausstellungen oder kleinen Galerien. Visuelle Notizen mit der Kamera.
Ich bin gerade dabei, die Fotos zu sichten und einzelne auszudrucken, teils komplett, teils Ausschnitte davon. Ich wähle, was mich anspricht, ohne mich gleich zu fragen warum. Und ich gehe auch weiter zu Fotos von früheren Reisen, stöbere in meiner Sammlung von Bildmotiven anderer Künstler*innen.
Inzwischen liegen schon viele Ausdrucke auf meinem Schreibtisch, gruppiert nach Motiven, Farben, Strukturen. Wobei das nur ein winziger Ausschnitt aus den gesammelten Inspirationen ist. Aber für den Moment soll er genügen.
Wozu das Ganze? Ich möchte die Ausdrucke in ein “Atelier-Journal”, ein Skizzenbuch einkleben und mich dann fragen, was genau mich anspricht und warum. Diese Gedanken werde ich neben den Fotos notieren. Ich denke, dabei werden sich Ideen herauskristallisieren, mit denen ich dann experimentieren kann.
Project finished – what’s next?
The vernissage was a kind of ending for the current work. The small series of abstract paintings around the sea is finished for me for the time being. Do I already have a new project? No, at the moment I’m happy that the exhibition is running.
Also, it’s time to take a closer look at the inspirations I collected a few weeks ago at the Baltic Sea: photos of the sea, of the beach and clouds, of fishing boats in the harbour. Photos of motifs that caught my eye on the street, in exhibitions or in small galleries. Visual notes with the camera.
I’m in the process of looking at the photos and printing out individual ones, some in full, some as excerpts. I choose what appeals to me without asking myself why. And I also go on to photos from previous trips, rummage through my collection of motifs by other artists.
In the meantime there are already many printouts on my desk, grouped according to motifs, colors and structures. And that’s just a tiny excerpt from the collected inspirations. But it should suffice for the moment.
What is all this for? I want to stick the printouts in a “studio journal”, a sketchbook, and then ask myself what exactly appeals to me and why. I will jot down these thoughts next to the photos. I think ideas will emerge that I can then experiment with.
