Wie oft sagen wir „ich habe da eine Idee“ und meinen damit einen Gedanken, eine Vorstellung von etwas, das wir machen wollen.
Ideen kommen ständig zu uns. Wir sehen etwas, hören etwas, das wirkt wie ein Trigger und stößt unsere Gedanken an. So weit, so wichtig.
Aber die Gedanken sind nur in unserem Kopf. Sie sind etwas Theoretisches, Abstraktes – auch wenn es um konkrete Inhalte geht. Wir können uns vorstellen, ein Seerosen-Bild zu malen wie Monet oder eine knallbunte Landschaft wie David Hockney.
Doch wenn wir dann an der Staffelei stehen und beginnen – mal abgesehen davon, dass wir die Fertigkeiten benötigen – stellt sich die Frage: Will ich das wirklich? Oder will ich die Seerosen, die Landschaft nicht ganz anders malen? Und wie will ich sie malen? Oder geht es mir nur um die Farben und ich möchte gar nichts Gegenständliches produzieren?
Erst wenn wir den Stift aufs Papier, den Pinsel auf die Leinwand setzen und loslegen, können wir dem nachspüren, was uns interessiert, woran wir Freude haben.
Ganz ohne Ideen geht es nicht. Wir brauchen etwas, das uns in Bewegung bringt, mit dem wir starten.
Aber erst im Tun entwickeln sich einerseits unsere Fertigkeiten und gleichzeitig bekommen wir immer mehr ein Gefühl dafür, was unsere kreative Stimme ausmacht.

How often do we say “I have an idea” and mean a thought, an idea of something that we want to do.
Ideas come to us all the time. We see something, hear something that acts like a trigger and pushes our thoughts. So far, so important.
But the thoughts are only in our heads. They are something theoretical, abstract – even when it comes to concrete content. We can imagine painting a water lily picture like Monet or a brightly colored landscape like David Hockney.
But when we stand at the easel and start – apart from the fact that we need the skills – the question arises: Do I really want this? Or do I want to paint the water lilies or the landscape in a completely different way? And how do I want to paint them? Or is it just about the colors and I don’t want to produce anything representational?
Only when we put pen to paper, brush to canvas and get started we can trace what interests us, what we enjoy.
It doesn’t work without ideas. We need something that gets us moving, that we start with.
But it’s only by doing that our skills develop, and at the same time we get a better sense of what constitutes our creative voice.
