Versagen – ein schreckliches Wort, oder?
Es steht für Niederlage, Scheitern, Unfähigkeit. Es bewertet. Es wertet ab. Meine Arbeit. Mich.
Wie anders klingt das Wort Kreativität!
Ich denke sofort an Neues, an Aufbruch, auch an Spiel. Kreativität wird geschätzt, in unserer Zeit sogar immer mehr gefordert.
Vielleicht ist es genau diese Forderung, immer und überall kreativ sein zu müssen, die uns Angst macht.
Was ist, wenn mir nichts Geniales einfällt? Was ist, wenn ich keine spannende Idee für einen neuen Roman finde? Wenn ich keine interessante Technik für meine nächsten Bilder entwickele? Was ist, wenn das, was ich ausprobiere, nicht funktioniert?
Da ist es wieder, das Versagen. Schon der Gedanke daran lähmt uns. Wenn wir nichts Neues versuchen, können wir nicht scheitern, sind auf der “sicheren Seite”. Aber wollen wir das?
Kreatives Tun trägt immer die Möglichkeit in sich, in eine Sackgasse zu laufen. Was soll’s! Zurück und weiter auf einer anderen Route.
Wer weiß, vielleicht entdecken wir am Wegesrand eine namenlose Blume. Finden die Lösung für ein Problem, mit dem wir uns noch gar nicht beschäftigt haben. Vielleicht genießen wir aber auch einfach nur die Reise.
Kreativität braucht offene Augen, einen offenen Geist. Und die Erlaubnis an uns selbst, spielerisch Möglichkeiten zu erkunden, auch ohne vorzeigbares Ergebnis.

Failure – a terrible word, isn’t it?
It stands for lack of success, defeat, inability. It evaluates. It devalues. My work. Me.
How different does the word creativity sound!
I immediately think of new things, of departure, and also of play. Creativity is valued, in our time even more and more demanded.
Perhaps it is precisely this demand to be creative at all times and everywhere that scares us.
What if I can’t think of anything brilliant? What if I can’t find an exciting idea for a new novel? If I don’t develop an interesting technique for my next paintings? What if what I’m trying doesn’t work?
There it is again, the failure. Just the thought of it paralyzes us. If we don’t try anything new, we can’t fail, we’re on the “safe side”. But do we want that?
Creative activity always carries the possibility of running into a dead end. What the hell! Back and forth on a different route.
Who knows, maybe we’ll spot a nameless flower along the way. Finding the solution to a problem we haven’t even dealt with before. Or maybe we just enjoy the trip.
Creativity needs open eyes, an open mind. And allowing ourselves to playfully explore possibilities, even without a presentable result.
