Immer wieder geht es in Zitaten um die Verbindung von Künstler*innen mit ihrer Umwelt, mit Menschen und Dingen.
Diese Verbindung hat für mich zwei Richtungen.
Üblicherweise arbeiten wir alleine in unserem Atelier. Wir stehen an unserer Staffelei oder sitzen an unserem Maltisch und entwickeln dort unsere Werke. Die Inspirationen dazu liefert für die meisten allerdings die Welt um uns herum, sie muss in irgendeiner Form zu uns kommen. Ohne die Anregungen von außen würden wir uns nur mit uns selbst beschäftigen und uns vermutlich irgendwann im Kreise drehen um die immer gleichen Motive, nichts Neues mehr an ihnen finden.
Doch es ist genauso wichtig, unsere Werke in die Welt zu schicken. Denn sie tragen unsere Gedanken, unsere Empfindungen, unsere Sichtweisen mit sich. Sie können andere Menschen ansprechen und berühren. Je nachdem, auf wen sie treffen, entstehen Resonanzen, das Gegenüber fühlt sich verstanden und bestärkt. Oder sie lösen vielleicht ein Nachdenken aus über Dinge, mit denen sich der Betrachter noch nicht beschäftigt hat.
Auch wenn die kreative Arbeit selbst meist eine abgeschiedene ist, die entstehenden Bilder, Skulpturen, Bücher sind ein Mittel der Kommunikation. Das Wort Kommunikation ist verwandt mit dem lateinischen “communio” – Gemeinschaft. Wenn wir miteinander kommunizieren, schaffen wir eine Form von Gemeinschaft. Und dazu kann und soll eben auch die Kunst beitragen.

For me this connection has two directions.
We usually work alone in our studio. We stand at our easel or sit at our painting table and develop our works there. For most, however, the inspiration for this comes from the world around us, it has to come to us in some form. Without external stimulation, we would only deal with ourselves and probably at some point turn around in circles around the same motifs and find nothing new about them.
But it is just as important to send our works out into the world. Because they carry our thoughts, our feelings, our points of view with them. You can speak to and touch other people. Depending on who you meet, there are resonances, the other person feels understood and strengthened. Or maybe they trigger thinking about things that the viewer has not yet dealt with.
Even if the creative work itself is mostly isolated, the resulting paintings, sculptures and books are a means of communication. The word communication is related to the Latin “communio” – community. When we communicate with one another, we create a form of community. And art can and should also contribute to this.
