In diesem Zitat von Picasso stecken für mich drei Aspekte, die ich interessant finde.
1. Das Gefäß
In einem Gefäß kann ich etwas sammeln und bewahren und jemand anderes kann etwas hinein füllen.
Das Wort Inspiration kommt von lateinischen „inspirare“ – einhauchen, begeistern.
Als Künstlerin sammele ich, was auch immer mir bewahrenswert scheint, was auch immer mich inspiriert. Ich habe dann einen Fundus, aus dem ich schöpfen kann.
So ein Gefäß kann wohlgefüllt sein, es kann überlaufen oder auch mal leer sein. Und genau so fühlen wir uns an unterschiedlichen Tagen, oder?
2. Die Emotionen
Kunst möchte berühren, möchte in den Betrachtenden Empfindungen auslösen. Das geht nur – denke ich -, wenn schon beim Erschaffen Gefühle, Emotionen im Spiel sind.
Wenn ich aus einer bestimmten Gefühlslage heraus male, dann fließen diese Empfindungen in mein Bild ein durch die Wahl der Farben, durch die malerischen Gesten.
Ich muss diese Emotionen also in mir haben, um sie über das Bild an andere Menschen weitergeben zu können.
3. Von überall her:
Diese Erfahrung habt ihr sicher alle schon gemacht: Ihr seht, hört, riecht oder spürt etwas und sofort habt ihr eine Idee, damit etwas Kreatives zu machen.
Die unterschiedlich gefärbten Wolkenschichten am Abend rufen förmlich nach Aquarellfarbe. Risse im Asphalt und das darin sprießende Kraut wirken wie ein abstraktes Bild. Die halb abgerissenen Plakate an der Litfaßsäule könnten eine Collage sein. Und das Rauschen der Bäume im Wind erinnert euch an den letzten Besuch am Meer und das Gefühl der Freiheit, das ihr dort hattet.
Alles um uns herum löst etwas aus, wenn wir es als Künstler*innen nur wahrnehmen.
Und da liegt auch oft das Problem: Wir nehmen so viel wahr, uns fällt so viel dazu ein, dass wir das gar nicht alles umsetzen können. Jedenfalls nicht hier und jetzt.
Aber was mache ich mit all den Ideen? Kann ich sie vielleicht irgendwie speichern?
Genau deshalb habe ich immer Fotoapparat und Notizbuch dabei. Bilder oder ein paar Stichworte und eine kleine Skizze halten die Inspiration fest. Ich kann sie dann hervorholen, wenn Zeit für sie gekommen ist. Wobei manche Ideen vermutlich nie über dieses Stadium herauskommen.

In this quote from Picasso there are three aspects that I find interesting.
1. The vessel
I can collect and keep something in a vessel and someone else can put something in it.
The word inspiration comes from the Latin “inspirare” – to breathe in, inspire.
As an artist, I collect whatever seems worth preserving, whatever inspires me. I then have a pool to draw from.
Such a vessel can be well filled, it can overflow or even be empty. And that’s exactly how we feel on different days, right?
2. The emotions
Art wants to touch, wants to trigger feelings in the viewer. That’s only possible – I think – if feelings and emotions are already involved while creating.
If I paint from a certain emotional state, then these feelings flow into my painting through the choice of colors, through the painterly gestures.
So I have to have these emotions within me in order to be able to pass them on to other people through the painting.
3. From anywhere:
I’m sure you’ve all had this experience: You see, hear, smell or feel something and immediately you have an idea to do something creative with it.
The differently colored cloud layers in the evening literally call for watercolor paint. Cracks in the asphalt and the herbs sprouting in them look like an abstract picture. The half-torn posters on the advertising pillar could be a collage. And the rustling of the trees in the wind reminds you of the last visit to the sea and the feeling of freedom you had there.
Everything around us triggers something if we as artists only perceive it.
And that’s where the problem often lies: We perceive so much, we can think of so much that we can’t implement everything. At least not here and now.
But what do I do with all the ideas? Is there any way I can save them?
That’s why I always have my camera and notebook with me. Pictures or a few keywords and a small sketch capture the inspiration. I can then bring them out when the time comes for them. Although some ideas will probably never get past this stage.
